Comment by the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the terrorist act in Kenya
At least 14 people were killed, including 2 foreigners – citizens of the United States and United Kingdom, many were injured as a result of an attack by a militant group on the five-star «Dusit D2» hotel complex in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on January 15, 2019. The Somali extremist group Al-Shabaab has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. In the security operation of the Kenyan special forces all the terrorists involved in the attack were eliminated.
Moscow strongly condemns this bloody and inhuman act and expresses solidarity with the Government of friendly Kenya in its fight against terrorism. We are convinced that the organizers of this atrocious crime will suffer deserved punishment.
According to preliminary information received from the Russian Embassy in Nairobi, none of the Russian citizens, including the employees of the Embassy and their family members, are among the victims.
We express our deep and sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims. We wish the injured quick recovery.
